Meet the Land
After nearly 5 years of searching for our perfect place, Travis and I are excited to finally be moving to our own 45 acre property! With 30 acres of woods and 15 acres tillable, we have a good blend of everything our future homestead could need. I was particularly excited when we first saw this property in 2012 because it was already eligible for organic certification. This made it easy to transition my organic operation on rented land to our new place in the fall of 2016. And Travis was excited for the acres and acres of cherry, hickory, black walnut and red oak that abounds on our property. We plan on building our home in the spring of 2017! See below for pictures of how our property went from pasture and woods to homestead and farm!
Our land stewardship practices surpass those required by the National Organic Program and we have been certified organic since 2015 by MOSA. We grow health, nutrient-dense vegetables, fruit, flowers and herbs without the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides or other chemicals. Instead we feed the soil instead of the plant by balancing our soils utilizing sustainable farming practices such as composting, cover crops, living aisles, mulching, low-tillage bed pre methods and a good, 6+ year crop rotation. Each season we also host on-farm events so you can come see how your produce is grown for yourself!
